Thursday Child Sonya Hartnett Books
One of the shadowy, half-remembered books in the back of my mind is a big hardcover in a scratchy green cloth binding, a book called Thursday's Child by Noel Streatfeild. I despair of ever finding that book again, because this one, an out-of-print British paperback Amazon found for me after searching for YEARS, isn't the right story. It has the right characters, like the lovely Lavinia Beresford and the central Margaret Thursday, but I fear it has been abridged. With an axe. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to cry.Tags : Amazon.com: Thursday's Child (9780763622039): Sonya Hartnett: Books,Sonya Hartnett,Thursday's Child,Candlewick,0763622036,9780763622039,JUV013000,Family - General (see also headings under Social Themes),Historical - Exploration & Discovery,Family life;Fiction.,Farm life;Fiction.,Poverty;Fiction.,Children's 12-Up - Fiction - History,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Family life,Farm life,Fiction,Fiction-Coming of Age,Fiction-Historical,Historical - General,JUVENILE,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Family General,Juvenile Fiction Historical Exploration & Discovery,Juvenile Grades 10-12 Ages 15+,Lifestyles - Farm Life & Ranch Life,Poverty,TEEN'S FICTION - COMING OF AGE,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Family General (see also headings under Social Themes),YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical Exploration & Discovery,Coming of age
Thursday Child Sonya Hartnett Books Reviews
Pretty weak really so enjoyed Twopence to cross the Mersey so was a bit of a let down.
I read this book many many years ago and then found myself marrying a foreigner and ending up in a very different culture with a family who were not ready to welcome me with open arms so the story was always in my mind and yes, I was born on a Thursday! So was my twin, what a coincidence! I found when I first moved that there were many parallels between my life and this story so bought it and reread it and loved every page. Its addictive reading because there is always something about to happen and you have to keep turning the pages (or pressing on the screen) to find out the outcome of the newest element; be it the journey to India, how she settles in, the intrigues in her in-laws house and eventually, her relationship with her in-laws. Great book
Ive been looking for this book for years because it was a favorite as a child, so im very happy to have found it.
It arrived within the timeframe suggested...i was just suprised it took that long. I ordered it May 3rd and it arrived today May 25th. The timeframe given was the 10th to the 28th and it was shipped on the 5th. I was beginning to get concerned but was going to give it til the 29th before contacting the seller. It was an overall good experience... Just a very long wait time for delivery.
If I could give it no stars I would. The condition was not as stated and parts of it are unreadable
The story was well written and well read, but it was very dark and depressing. Won't be listening to it a second time.
Fun read--especially if you are able to exercise your willful suspension of disbelief.
I read this book several times when I was a child and I just happened to remember the name and some of the plot, but when I started reading, it was exactly as I remembered it, only I don't know how I understood a word of it as a child, there is some challenging vocabulary.
The book condition was great, Thank you!
The delivery was prompt.
