I was very, very disappointed in this woman. I felt like reaching through the book and slapping her. I've read books about "strong and independent" women, but this was beyond conceivable. She was EXTREMELY STUPID. I think her stupidity and putting everyone else in danger just ruined the ending for me, which was actually a pretty romantic ending, but when it happened I was just disgusted with the whole thing...

The suspense was interesting, with the heroine removed. I really liked the other two brothers and the niece and actually felt bad for her, especially when she had to again watch her future aunt do something really stupid...I gave this three stars because I liked a lot of the suspense and think the brothers have pretty good future story lines...We'll see!

Another riveting spell binding book from Susan Sleeman. It had you guessing who was behind the trouble and why. It kept you on the edge of your seat for sure.
Intriguing plot twists. Learning to trust others as well as rely on your own abilities was a lesson that took some learning.
Just what I needed right now,a slower paced mystery romance.Something for a really long hot summer day.When you can put your feet up and just read.
I really enjoyed this book. I had trouble putting this book down.. It was an inspiration to me, to trust God even more... I have had a battle this year and almost died.. from medicine that I was taking.. God saved my life. So I really could relate to this book. Thank you Susan. Edith J. Reese.
Although I realize this may be one of her first books, I found the narrative to be like a machine gun coming at me in short bursts with too much happening too quickly. I blame her editor for wrong use of a word (oughta' for outta') and for not catching an error concerning a revolver and a 'clip'. Attention to detail still matters. This author's website says that she has been through the FBI and police citizens programs. Recommend someone familiar with weapons look at the scenarios before publishing.
I was disappointed with this book. I have never read this author before. The heroine was kept putting herself in dangerous situations because she was so stupid there was no logic to her actions. Even if she was trying to prove her independence. That part of the storyline was repeated over and over. Very very boring. The hero was great and I liked him a lot. If he was my friend I would tell him to run like heck away from her. Escape while you can .
Couldn't even finish the book because I disliked the heroine so much. Hope the other books in the series are better.
Susan Sleeman is one of my favorite authors'. I have read Double Exposure, Dead Wrong, and now High-Stakes Inheritance. All 3 books were so good! Mia moved back to Logan Lake, Oregon, so she could fulfill the conditions in her Uncle Willy's will. The conditions states she has to live there a year before she can inherit the rustic resort he left her. Shortly after arriving at the rustic resort Mia gets a threatening notes stating Leave Logan Lake now or you will pay. From there the action heats up. Ryan her ex boyfriend saves her from a fire, and from there shares the action with her. This is a fun read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I loved the reference of God in her story line, and that the charactors prayed. I know if I was going through what they faced, I would take time to pray, just to hold onto to hope!

Mia eased between Jessie and the box. She clamped a hand on the lid then picked up the box and took it to the kitchen counter.
She opened and peered inside. Oh, No! She dropped the note into the box covering the horrible sight. Her stomach roiled. Acid burned. Nausea sent her bolting for the nearest bathroom. On her knees near the claw-foot bathtub, she drew in a deep, cleansing breath and waited for her stomach to cease cramping. Who could have done this? Her father? Did he hate her this much? Or was it someone else? And if so...why? The image of the hand and the note drilled into her mind.
